Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Bluecrop‘, commonly known as Bluecrop Highbush Blueberry, is a highly popular northern highbush variety known for its heavy yields, excellent fruit quality, and reliability. Growing 4 to 6 feet tall and wide, Bluecrop produces large, firm berries with a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, ideal for fresh eating, baking, and preserving.
This deciduous shrub provides multi-season appeal. In spring, delicate white bell-shaped flowers attract pollinators, followed by clusters of blue fruit in mid to late summer. In autumn, the foliage turns a brilliant red-orange, adding vibrant color to the garden. As a native species, Bluecrop Highbush Blueberry also supports local wildlife, providing food and shelter for birds, pollinators, and beneficial insects.

‘Bluecrop’ performs best in full sun and prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soils with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5. It’s tolerant of a variety of soil types but requires consistent moisture, especially during fruit development. Mulching helps maintain soil acidity and moisture levels.
‘Bluecrop’ typically grows 4 to 6 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, forming a vigorous, upright shrub. It works well for home gardens, berry patches, and edible hedges.
‘Bluecrop’ blooms in spring (April to May). It’s a mid-season variety, with berries ripening in mid to late summer (usually July). The berries are known for being large, firm, and sweet with a slight tartness.
Bluecrop’ is self-pollinating, but planting it near other varieties of highbush blueberries (like ‘Duke’ or ‘Patriot’) can increase fruit size and overall yield through cross-pollination.
‘Bluecrop’ is considered low-maintenance, but it benefits from annual pruning in late winter to remove older canes and encourage vigorous new growth. It also requires regular watering during dry spells and soil monitoring to maintain proper acidity.
