Product Description

Campsis radicans ‘Flava’, commonly known as Yellow Trumpet Vine, is a native cultivar of Trumpet Vine valued for its vigorous growth, bright yellow summer flowers, and exceptional wildlife value. Like the species, this woody climbing vine can reach 20 to 30 feet or more with support, using aerial rootlets to cling to structures, fences, and trellises.

From mid-summer into early fall, large trumpet-shaped flowers bloom in clear yellow, offering a lighter color variation while retaining the dramatic form Trumpet Vine is known for. The blooms are highly attractive to hummingbirds and other pollinators. Dense green foliage provides strong seasonal coverage and shade throughout the growing season.

Yellow Trumpet Vine grows best in full sun, where flowering is strongest, but tolerates partial shade. It adapts to a wide range of soil conditions and is drought tolerant once established. Due to its vigorous growth habit, it is best suited for sturdy structures and locations where regular pruning and management are acceptable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best growing conditions for Yellow Trumpet Vine?

Yellow Trumpet Vine thrives in full sun and prefers average to rich, well-drained soil, but it’s highly adaptable to poor, dry, or sandy soils as well. Once established, it’s very drought-tolerant and can handle tough urban or roadside conditions. Full sun encourages the best flowering.

How large does Yellow Trumpet Vine grow?

Campsis radicans ‘Flava’ is a vigorous, woody climbing vine that can grow 30–40 feet or more with support. It climbs by aerial rootlets, allowing it to adhere to trellises, arbors, fences, and even masonry—so be sure to provide a strong, permanent structure for it to grow on.

When does Yellow Trumpet Vine bloom?

Yellow Trumpet Vine blooms from midsummer through early fall (typically July to September). It produces clusters of bright yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that are bold and tropical-looking, offering standout late-season color.

Is Yellow Trumpet Vine good for pollinators and wildlife?

Absolutely. Campsis radicans ‘Flava’ is a magnet for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. The tubular flowers are especially attractive to hummingbirds, making it a top choice for wildlife-friendly vertical plantings.

Is Yellow Trumpet Vine aggressive?

Yes—like the species, ‘Flava’ is very vigorous and can spread aggressively through suckers and self-seeding. It’s best used in large spaces or naturalized settings, and should be regularly pruned to control spread. Avoid planting near delicate structures or garden beds unless heavily managed.
