Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, commonly known as Bearberry, is a native evergreen groundcover found across northern North America, including much of the United States and Canada. This low-growing, woody perennial spreads by trailing stems to form dense mats of glossy, dark green leaves. In spring, it produces small, urn-shaped white to pale pink flowers, followed by bright red berries that persist into winter. Typically growing 6 to 12 inches tall and spreading several feet wide, Bearberry thrives in full sun to part shade and well-drained, sandy or rocky soils, making it an excellent choice for slopes, dry sites, and native groundcover plantings.
