Hydrangea paniculata Little Lime® PP22330, commonly known as Little Lime Hydrangea, is a compact, dwarf version of the popular ‘Limelight’ hydrangea. This non-native cultivar features cone-shaped blooms that open pale green in midsummer, shift to soft white, then blush to pink as fall approaches. Reaching only 3 to 5 feet tall and wide, Little Lime® fits easily into smaller landscapes, foundation beds, and containers while delivering big flower power. Though widely used for its reliable blooms and low maintenance, it provides limited ecological value to native pollinators or wildlife.

No. Hydrangea paniculata is native to eastern Asia, including parts of China and Japan. Little Lime® is a dwarf cultivar bred for ornamental use. While it’s popular in American landscapes for its beauty and performance, it is not native and offers limited ecological value compared to North American species like Hydrangea arborescens or Hydrangea quercifolia.
Little Lime® is a compact version of the popular Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight’. It typically grows 3 to 5 feet tall and wide, with dense, rounded flower heads that emerge lime green, mature to creamy white, and fade to pink and burgundy in fall. It offers strong stems, long bloom time, and is perfect for smaller gardens, containers, or low hedges.
Little Lime® thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil. It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8 and performs reliably even in cold climates. Since it blooms on new wood, it should be pruned in late winter or early spring to encourage strong flowering.
To a limited extent. Some of the small, fertile flowers in the panicles may attract bees and butterflies, but most of the showy blooms are sterile bracts. It is not a host plant for native insects and contributes less to local biodiversity than native hydrangea species.
Not reliably. Like most hydrangeas, Little Lime® is occasionally browsed by deer, especially new growth. It is, however, low-maintenance otherwise—requiring minimal pruning, consistent watering during dry spells, and light mulching to protect roots and conserve moisture.
